About Galena
Located in the Derbyshire village of Wardlow, Galena cottage has been recently been renovated. It is a spacious 3 bedroomed detached cottage with excellent views. There are fantastic walks, bike rides, and tourist attractions all within easy reach. Our cottage can offer a superb holiday at any time of year.
Out and About
Originally part of the Chatsworth estate, Wardlow was sold to cover death duties.
Wardlow is a good example of a linear village, where the settlement has grown in a straight line following the sides of a road. The name Wardlow means ‘look-out hill’ and probably refers to Wardlow Hay Cop which is a conical shaped hill nearby.
Local Attractions
The historic village of Eyam, famous for isolating itself during the plague, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Castleton (famous for the Blue John Caverns), the spa town of Buxton (with the famous Opera House), Tideswell, the Cathedral of the Peaks and the beautiful Derwent Dams are all just a short distance away.

The owners were quick to respond to queries, the cottage exceeded our expectations as regards cleanliness, size and amenities. Its location is idyllic in terms of views and cycle rides from the cottage and from everything to the logs for the fire, the dry storage for our bikes, the welcome for our dog and the hamper on arrival, our experience has been simply amazing. A holiday to remember, thank you so much and my family and I are forever grateful.
Everything done to a very high standard. Lovely area and surroundings. Very helpful when requesting a change over wuth the beds. I highlly recommend Galena Cottage to all. X
Very comfortable beds and the sitting rooms and kitchen are excellent. Would recommend for anyone who loves walking or cycling, plenty of walks from the cottage and the Mondale Trail / Dovedale Trails are very close in proximity.
There was nothing lacking in any aspect … a wonderful kitchen, lovely beds, bedding and towels. A welcome pack, including milk, butter, bread and wine was a kind thought. My little dog had his own welcome pack too, with toys, treats, poo bags etc….. most unexpected. The cottage was situated within a short drive to Chatsworth and lovely walks across fields from the door. Altogether a lovely cottage which I would be very happy to book again.
